Hawthorn Alumni - Please Take the Frosh Survey!

Attention High School Freshmen! Hawthorn wants to hear from you again! We know that moving into high school is a big step for any student. Your teachers and administrators at Hawthorn would like to find out about your transition from Hawthorn to high school. How is high school different? How well did we prepare you for high school life? What could we do differently? Please tell us what you think by taking the short online survey developed just for our Hawthorn students who are now freshmen in high school. The anonymous survey should only take a couple of minutes to complete. If you would rather have a paper copy of the survey, please call the Hawthorn District Office at 847-990-4200. Please complete your survey by February 6, 2009. Thank you so much for your thoughtful feedback! Take the survey now.

Tentative 2009-10 Calender Announced

To assist families with planning, Hawthorn announces the tentative calendar for the 2009-10 school year. Our current plan is for students to start on August 31 with a two-hour day. Note that this calendar is indeed tentative, and must still be approved by the Hawthorn Board of Education as well as the state. As parents plan ahead, keep in mind that Hawthorn has experienced one "snow day" so far this winter - which moves the ending date for the 2008-09 school year out one day as well. For details on the tentative 2009-10 calendar, please read on... More»

It's Time to Register for Kindergarten!

Children who turn 5 by September 1, 2009 are eligible for Hawthorn kindergarten this fall. The registration process begins with an important Parent Information Meeting on Thursday, January 29 at Hawthorn Middle North, 201 Hawthorn Parkway in Vernon Hills. If you know of a family with a child who may be ready for kindergarten, please let them know about this important meeting. (These parents are always surprised that we have know way of knowing who our incoming kindergarten students are, and are therefore not able to contact them personnally.) Thanks for helping us get the word out! For more information about Hawthorn Kindergarten and the Kindergarten Registration Process, check the Ask the Superintendent webpage.

Parents-of-Teens Workshop - Jan 14

About Snow Days...

When snow or other circumstances require our schools to close, Hawthorn will use a number of methods to communicate that information to our families. Hawthorn will activate our automated emergency calling system to send a telephone message to our families. Calls for snow closings will go to our students' main phone numbers, as provided by parents on student registration/information forms. We will also join with other area schools in announcing cancellations on a number of radio and television stations. Cancellation information will be posted here on this website and provided for posting on www.emergencyclosings.com. Note that when Hawthorn closes school, all other activities that take place in our buildings on that day are also cancelled. (Examples of activities that will also be cancelled include after-school clubs, Park District activities, Scout gatherings and parent meetings.) Please read on for more information about school-closing notifications... More»
